Comhairle na nÓg

As a voluntary youth led project the activities are very much led by the groups.

Who we are

Comhairle na nÓg are local ‘youth councils’ designed to give children and Young People the ‘right to have his or her voice heard’ by being involved in the development of local services and policies.

There is a Comhairle na nÓg in each of the Local Authority. The Department of Children and Youth Affairs oversees Comhairle na nÓg, the delivery of which is the responsibility of each Local Authority.

What we do

  • We give young people a chance to develop personal and social responsibilities
  • We recognise young people as a valuable asset in decision making
  • We work to better the lives of young people on both the national and local scale

What we offer

Kildare Comhairle na nÓg provides a forum for young people aged 12-17 to identify and work on issues of importance to them before working with key local decisions-makers in a bid to achieve their desired outcome, impact or change.

The Comhairle na nÓg AGM is one of the first steps in that process, bringing together Young People from throughout the county to identify and prioritise these topics of importance. Following the AGM, all attendees will be invited to participate in a Comhairle na nÓg which will focus on issues that are relevant to young people. This can be through the County Panel or Local Comhairle.
